Release Date: 4th Feb 2008A precocious princess, a pompous prince, obnoxious siblings, squabbling sisters and feuding mothers and daughters; hardly my idea of a fairytale.
In a sea of unhappy and uneasy relationships, is it any wonder that blood-sucking vampires (who don’t get so much as a nibble), conning cockatrices into turning each other into stone (I would have preferred either of the pretentious highnesses to have got theirs instead) and sidetracking strange toll pond creatures is such a walk in the park for Princess Emma?
For the record: the highly irritable mother of the aforementioned pompous prince does NOT dictate that the bratty and highly magic-dependent Princess Emma cannot use magic in order to find her precious ten-year-old (and equally as irritating) son. This idea is something that Emma comes up with on her own. And to my dismay, there are no ex-girlfriends parading around flaunting themselves at the prince; only minor flirtations from some maidens who didn’t realise he was betrothed (I would have loved this relationship to endure something as normal and uncomfortable as actual ex’s causing trouble for this lovesick pair).
No. The title may claim “No Place for Magic”, but I’m afraid “No Place on a Bookshelf” is probably more apt. Dismal, tiresome and a plague of uninspiring and insipid characters make this one to miss.
