Release Date: 5th Aug 2010Why you shoudn't tell the kids about the bats in your attic...
This vibrantly illustrated children’s book tackles the classic parental issue of that first sleepover and the natural concerns about whether or not your child will “cope” without you, all from the child’s perspective.
Harry is off to his friend, Jack’s house for his first ever sleepover. From outward appearances, Harry seems confident and nonplussed about spending the night away from home without his parents, however, underneath he is a little nervous – as are his dinosaurs. Once at Jack’s, Harry and the dinosaurs are having lots of fun until Jack’s dad shows them the spooky attic along with its sleeping residents: bats! Distracted with trampolines and tents during the rest of the day, it is only when bedtime comes that Harry and his dinosaurs get scared. A tapping noise at the window has them convinced that a bat is trying to get in! That’s a Fail for Jack’s dad.
The moral of this story is perhaps not quite as intended. Kids do just fine so long as no idiot grownup does something daft that is likely to put their overactive imagination into overdrive.
The easy flowing narrative, the visual treat that are the illustrations and the simply gorgeous and highly educational inside cover providing details of various dinosaurs along with the phonetic pronunciation all combine to make this a delightful storybook, in spite of the incidence of a dozy dad.
