It may appear to those who don’t know me well yet, that I am being prejudiced and favouring this wriggly titled book (it also happens to feature a particularly delightful looking Oligochaeta, but that’s also beside this point).
In actual fact, I am prejudiced on three counts – no four. The former two reasons, the fact that it is once again detailed by the charmingly illustrious Nick Sharratt (who is fast becoming a much favoured illustrator for Children’s books in my view) and because it is good, wholesome fun for both children and adults alike.
Being a worm, I never had the opportunity to read bedtime stories and such like to my offspring… we’re not well known for our strong familial ties… I have always imagined, though, that it could be rather dull and tiresome night after night with nothing to entertain me, the adult (selfish, I know) – but, and this is the true magic of this offering – this books allows one to make silly noises, scrabble about the floor, pull funny faces and use ridiculous voices all in the name of reading to or practicing reading to a child! How fantastic is that?! I say – throw away those inhibitions, rise to the challenge, have some fun and even if your children don’t enjoy it – you will!!
