Release Date: 17th Oct 2011Price is one parent who knows how to make learning FUN...
Our Solar System – silly? Well, I guess that depends on what you consider ‘silly’. For a child, getting their heads around huge figures with lots of noughts on the end would probably count. As would the fact that other planets “near” us, are actually nothing like Earth – in fact, some are too hot, others too cold. How silly is that?!
Whether intentionally or not, Price has produced a book of two halves. On the one hand, there is the silly sing-song narrative that gives a little insight into the universe beyond our own world. On the other, there is some serious educational fodder ready to be absorbed by curious readers.
The illustrations in The Silly Solar System are picture perfect – big, bold colours splashed across the pages bring the subject matter to life. The key to this beautifully crafted book, however, is the use of a information box. Aimed at the older reader (as well as the inquisitive adult!), these appropriately placed text boxes allow you to discover some interesting facts about the particular planet you’re looking at. Best of all, some of the facts are actually quite fun!
Kudos to Kevin Price for lovingly creating a wonderful learning tool for any child interested in the world (and solar system) around them. This deserves a place on your child’s bookshelf.
