Release Date: 1st May 2008Jack and Annie are back at the magic tree house to see where they have to go to next in order to find a “thing” that will help them save Morgan le Fay, a magical librarian who has been put under a spell. This time, their adventures take them to the Amazon rainforest – will they manage to find the thing and get out alive?
The two children nearly come to harm straightaway when the tree house lands on the canopy of the rainforest, and Annie didn’t know that that meant they could be fifty metres off the ground. Thankfully, Jack is wise enough to keep the book about the rainforest close and refers to it all along the way, making sure they know what creatures are and whether they are friendly or not.
And they do meet lots of different animals – from piranhas to baby jaguars (and it’s mum), Jack and Annie are in awe of their surroundings. But it is hindsight that makes them realise that the animals they met weren’t being mean on purpose, they were just being themselves.
Of course, a children’s book can hardly be complete without providing some pearl of wisdom to the youngsters today – and this book offers up the notion that we should leave the rainforest well alone, which is fair enough, in my view.
The Magic Tree House is a series for young readers to get their teeth into. It is thoughtfully written and provides some wonderful insights and accurate information about the different places Jack and Annie visit on their travels. This will surely charm readers and parents alike.
